Fresh Evergreen Products are "live" in the same sense that cut flowers are. Evergreen, however, is much hardier than cut flowers. As the term "evergreen" suggests, these plants are not truly dead until their needles turn orange. Live Evergreen plants always loose needles. Healthy pine trees in one's own yard will have a carpet of needles under it. Pine needles are hard, spiny and dry. They can literally prick your finger. They are generally not soft and supple. Balsam Fir is one northern variety of evergreen that is softer than many others, such as spruce. Like a live Christmas Tree, it will require a bit of moisture. This is truly not necessary more than once a week. Whereas wreath making is a craft and type of art, the way the branches are placed affects the way the wreath looks more than anything else.
